AirTouch Advanced Settings: AutoZoom, Color Gloves, and Proximity Triggers

A touchless interface at your desk is one thing. A touchless interface at a crowded trade show booth, in an operating room, or on a public kiosk is a different job, and AirTouch's Advanced Settings menu is where that job gets done. Six features live there: AutoZoom, Support Color Glove, the eye gaze check, Hand Raise Action, Touch and Multi-Touch, and Proximity Trigger. Here's what each one does and when to reach for it.
You'll find all of them in the Settings window (File menu, then Settings). They save per profile, so your kiosk configuration never leaks into your desk setup; see the gesture mapping tutorial for how profiles work.
AutoZoom: lock onto the right person in a crowd
With AutoZoom on, AirTouch scans the room, locks onto the first person to raise a hand, and crops the camera view to that user. Turn it on whenever multiple people are in view, at events and in public spaces, or when you're standing more than about 2 meters from the camera. It also solves framing automatically, which makes it the fastest fix when a setup doesn't feel right.
Support Color Glove: hand tracking for surgical gloves
By default, AirTouch recognizes flesh tones only. Enable Support Color Glove and it also recognizes surgical glove colors such as blue, purple, and green. The option is off by default, so if your users are gloved, in a lab, a grossing bench, or a sterile field, flip it on. It's one line in a settings menu, and it's the difference between a demo and a deployable clinical setup.
The eye gaze check: fewer accidental activations
The Ignore Eye Gaze setting controls whether AirTouch requires you to look at the camera before gestures register. On (the default), gestures work even when you're not looking at the camera, which is the more flexible everyday experience. Off, gestures only register when you're looking toward the camera, which reduces accidental activations. For high-stakes settings such as medical or industrial environments, turning Ignore Eye Gaze off adds a deliberate check between your hands and the screen.
Hand Raise Action: cue your app when a user engages
AirTouch responds after a user raises an open palm. If your application should react to that moment, say, showing a "you're in control" cue on a kiosk, enable the keyboard-shortcut trigger for Hand Raise Action and enter the shortcut your app listens for. AirTouch fires it every time interaction begins.
Proximity Trigger: wake your display when someone walks up
Proximity Trigger turns AirTouch into a proximity sensor. Assign it a keyboard shortcut, and AirTouch fires that shortcut when a person enters the scene and their head fills more than a set percentage of the camera view. The default threshold is 50%; adjust it to match your camera zoom. On a touchless kiosk, that means the attract screen dissolves the moment a visitor approaches, before they've gestured at all.
Which settings should you actually turn on?
A desk setup usually needs none of them; the defaults are tuned for one person at one computer. A public installation typically wants AutoZoom and Proximity Trigger. A clinical or industrial deployment wants Support Color Glove, and often the stricter gaze check. Save each combination as its own profile and switching contexts becomes a two-click job.
